Dr Hartnett explains how no model of how the universe formed can be ‘science’ because there are no repeatable experiments possible to test the models. He also shows how secular ideas of how the universe formed, such as the big bang, are based on philosophical assumptions that are driven by a desire to avoid any model that would point to divine design. That is, models such as the big bang have a religious basis, which many secularists try to hide. One of the fundamental assumptions, the Cosmological Principle, is that the universe has no preferred axis/orientation/direction—no matter which way you look at it, it looks the same (on a big scale). However, patterns in the Cosmic Microwave Background radiation align in space, contradicting this ‘principle’. The big bang, the most popular model, is also based more on the unknown than the known. It needs the universe to be made up mostly of ‘dark matter’ and ‘dark energy’, but the main ‘evidence’ for these is that the big bang model does not work without them! Even such a well accepted idea that the universe is expanding because of red-shifted light, another key assumption of the big bang, is just one interpretation of the data, amongst several others. Dr Hartnett shows how speculative the materialistic models are and encourages us to believe what God has inspired to be written about how it all came to be.
